Red Trillium blooms for up to three weeks before giving way to the berry-like fruits, which are eaten by birds and mammals. Although it is one of the hardiest Trilliums, and native to deciduous forests of the Northeast, it needs to receive ample sunlight early in its growing season. For this reason avoid planting it on the north side of buildings, or areas where the sun doesn't warm the ground.
